Out of Tragedy

George and Betty Seifert

Losing loved ones in a tragic explosion brought two generations of a local family to the Community Foundation. George and Betty Seifert together with Betty’s Father, Ken Pyle (1915 – 2012) were seeking a special way to honor beloved family members with the creation of a memorial scholarship fund. Selecting criteria for their fund made their scholarship a very personal tribute.

Today, the Kendra Pyle Shultz and Clinton Shultz Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund provides renewable scholarships to students pursuing a career in medicine with special emphasis on nursing. For the first years, the Seiferts and Mr. Pyle were the first to arrive at the Annual Scholarship Reception, anxious to meet their student. With each annual  scholarship award, the Seiferts and Mr. Pyle took pride in knowing that they were helping the next generation pursue their dreams and found comfort in a lasting legacy for their loved ones.
