Dreams of Many People Build a Brighter Future
August 25, 2014
"If a person dreams alone, it remains nothing but a dream. But when people dream together, that dream can become a reality."
Several years ago Community Foundation Chairman Dave Shellenbarger dreamed of creating a leadership program that focused specifically on the Greater Rochester community. To make his dream a reality, he turned to the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. Leadership Greater Rochester is an on-going program produced by the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce under the direction of Sheri Heiney and funded by charitable contributions to the Community Foundation. Leadership Greater Rochester identifies emerging community leaders, introduces different segments of community life to these leaders of tomorrow and compares and contrasts our three communities -- Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township. One of the requirements of the Leadership class is that all members to produce a class project.
Ann Peterson, a graduate of Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2014, wanted to focus her class project on helping local young people. As a mother she knew the importance of education and her experience working with students at ACE High School as a Rochester Rotary Interact Club sponsor convinced her that helping young people was the best way to enrich the community -- now and in the future. Ann created the The Ann Peterson Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship as her class project. Ann's scholarship is awarded to ACE students who are pursuing higher education or vocational training through the Community Foundation’s Scholarship Program.
Proof that the dreams of many people, all linked together really do build a brighter future for our community and its citizens. The Community Foundation can help you make your dreams come true.
