Men’s Fund and Women’s Fund Join to Help Seniors
May 8, 2014
For the first time, the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester’s Men’s Fund and Women’s Fund have joined to support the Older Persons’ Commission Act of Kindness Program. The Act of Kindness Program was established to assist low income seniors to stay in their homes. By providing simple chores, minor home repairs, assistance with heating bills – the small things won’t become bigger problems. The Act of Kindness Program demonstrates that little things can change the course of a life.
Peg Hamilton, the Foundation’s Executive Director said, “This program presented a great opportunity for The Men’s Fund and The Women’s Fund to cooperate on a common goal. Both funds were created to enhance the lives of local people and helping seniors remain in their own homes certainly does just that!”
The Foundation’s Men’s Fund carries on a tradition started by an earlier generation of local men (The Metropolitan Club) that built a reputation of modest amounts of money given at just the right time to make a difference in people’s lives. The Men’s Fund continues that uncomplicated approach to philanthropy. Established in 2001, The Women’s Fund is a permanently endowed fund, serving the needs of women now and continuing to be a resource for local women for generations to come. The Women’s Fund embodies the words of Elizabeth Cady Stanton . . . “Every woman must have a purse of her own.”
